North Yorkshire Lifestyle Photographer

As one of the leading North East commercial photographer, I specialise in lifestyle, editorial and portrait photography for businesses, PR agencies and marketing agencies. Based in County Durham and on the border of North Yorkshire, I am known for creating natural, storytelling images that help brands connect with real audiences.

Authentic Natural Advertising

My speciality is lifestyle commercial photography, which captures authentic moments — real people in real situations. This modern, natural style is widely used by PR, advertising and marketing agencies to promote products, services and organisations across the UK. The result feels spontaneous, as if the camera has simply caught the perfect moment that defines a brand and draws viewers in.

Over 20 Years of Professional Photography Expertise

Behind the easy, natural look is decades of experience. With more than 20 years in professional photography and a background as a staff press photographer in Teesside, I have an instinctive eye for lighting, angles, composition and colour. Each image is carefully crafted to reflect the client’s brand while appealing directly to the target audience.

Lifestyle Photographer in Newcastle & the North East

I often recruit people of all ages, looks and abilities to appear in my lifestyle photo sessions — from families and professionals to older couples or teenagers. I have worked on photoshoots across Middlesbrough, County Durham, North Yorkshire, Newcastle, Gateshead and Northumberland, producing images for national campaigns, editorial magazine features and digital marketing.

Depending on the brief, the look and feel of the models vary — a housebuilder may need photos of a young family at home, while a retirement village might prefer active older residents. Organisations such as Sustrans have commissioned me for lifestyle imagery showing people enjoying cycling in towns and countryside.

Authentic Housing Photography in South Shields

Recent North East assignments include capturing a housing group in South Shields, lifestyle images for Middlesbrough’s TK Maxx, and the launch of the visitor centre at Skelton near Saltburn. Using real people rather than professional models gave these images the informal, genuine feel clients wanted — because authenticity can’t be staged.

A great example is the North East Walk to Work campaign, featuring a real family wrapped up for a walk. The warmth and connection between them added real-life credibility to the images.

Of course, some projects demand professional models. For a Middlesbrough fashion event, I worked with Tyne Tees Models, producing striking lifestyle imagery for a Teesside marketing agency. Professional models bring valuable experience, but the growing trend for authentic lifestyle photography — combined with tighter budgets — has boosted the demand for non-professionals.

Natural Professional Images

I always keep my sessions relaxed and enjoyable. Participants often comment on how much fun they’ve had, forgetting they’re in front of a camera. I prefer natural moments over posed shots — sometimes asking people not to look at the lens at all. When children are involved, I get them engaged in the process, whether holding reflectors or snapping photos themselves — keeping everyone relaxed and genuine.

Campaign Photography on the Tyne Metro

My work regularly features in marketing campaigns, brochures, websites, train stations and on billboards across the A1 and A19, often giving those involved the thrill of seeing themselves in professional advertising. While sometimes there is no fee for participation, clients often allow people to keep digital copies as a keepsake.

Anyone across the North East of England — including Middlesbrough, Teesside, Durham, York, Newcastle and North Yorkshire — who’s interested in taking part in future lifestyle photography sessions can email me with a recent photo, height, contact details, and area. I will be in touch when suitable projects arise.
