South Tees Public Health Photographer: Breastfeeding Support Campaign

Over the years I have developed close working relationships with press officers working at all the Local Authorities across the Tees Valley covering everything from housing to social care and recycling to cultural events.

South Tees Public Health commissioned me to photograph a really inspiring photo campaign they were partnering with, featuring new breastfeeding mums to help support as many families as possible across the region.

Photographing the ‘Mamazing’ Breastfeeding Campaign Portraits

The brilliant ‘Mamazing’ advertising campaign involved a two-day photoshoot with 12 fantastic local ambassadors to fully capture the beauty, diversity and reality of their breastfeeding journeys.

The shoot was split across two community locations – Abingdon Family Hub in Middlesbrough and Guisborough Family Hub. Both venues offer a supportive and welcoming atmosphere for new mums and their families and I was there to capture those genuine, relaxed moments to bring the ‘Mamazing’ campaign to life visually.

 South Tees Public Health Photographer: Behind the Scenes in Redcar and Cleveland

My brief was to capture a comprehensive range of images, including ‘behind the scenes’ as the 12 ambassadors were helped to get ready with their hair and make-up to get them feeling their best before stepping in front of the lens.

Once the ambassadors were comfortable and at ease, I started the portrait photography session where I had been briefed to capture high-quality, full-length portrait shots with a plain white background to aid the designer create striking visuals.

These formal shots were complemented by a series of more relaxed poses which included partners, children and even a few grandads in the shots. The campaign wanted to paint a bigger picture to show how important family and community support is for new mums. These images helped convey a layer of emotional depth to the editorial copy and campaign messages.

My campaign photographs were used across Redcar and Middlesbrough on buses, the main A66 large billboards and across on-street advertising displays. It was an absolute privilege to be asked to photograph this amazing campaign and a delight to see my images so prominently displayed across Teesside.

  • Delivery : Campaign still photography was rolled out across all media channels. The authentic imagery fronts public health announcements on local transit networks, community billboards, regional television, and social media platforms throughout Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland areas.
