Dave Charnley Photography celebrates nearly 18 years in business
It’s hard to believe, but on the 24th of March 2026, Dave Charnley Photography will be celebrating eighteen wonderful years as a specialist commercial, PR, industrial and marketing photography business serving 100’s of clients across the North East of England, Scotland, and on occasion, London for corporate photography commissions.
Dave’s fascination with photography began really early on using the family Kodak 126 camera and which developed into a lifelong career behind the camera. He learned his trade more than 30 years ago when he was taken on as a trainee press photographer for national and regional newspapers in Southern Scotland. Those formative years gave him invaluable experience and taught him to work quickly, creatively and under pressure. Every day was different, and over time he photographed everything from royal visits and celebrity events to sports fixtures, business features, and news stories for FTSE100 companies, public and private sector organisations, and local charities.
The media landscape has evolved dramatically since those early days. Traditional print publications have seen readerships decline while online platforms and digital media continue to expand. Today, most people consume their news online, and while many outlets now encourage users to submit their own images, there remains a strong demand for the kind of distinctive, professional photography that captures attention — something Dave consistently delivers.
Based near Middlesbrough, on the border of County Durham and North Yorkshire, Dave Charnley Photography continues to work with a wide range of editorial, corporate and marketing clients. His ability to adapt, see moments differently, and produce visually striking imagery has kept his business thriving for more than a decade and a half — and his work continues to appear in national publications, company annual reports, websites, and press campaigns right across the UK.
